Summer is the perfect time for giving your yard some fresh life. Especially for those who dream of creating a cozy, welcoming outdoor space where family and friends can come together. One of the best ways to transform your yard into an oasis is by planting trees.

Here's a step-by-step guide to ensure your trees are planted correctly so they can thrive:

Step 1: Dig a hole at least twice as deep and wide as the container your tree came in

You want the hole you plant your tree in to be as wide as possible, this provides the optimal environment for your tree’s roots to expand and take hold. If the hole you plant your tree in isn’t wide enough it can stunt your tree’s growth, meaning it will take longer for your tree to grow into a big healthy tree.

Step 2: In the bottom1/3 of the hole add in topsoil, peat moss, manure/compost, fertilizer, and Myke Tree/Shrub Root Supplement

Supplementing the planting hole of your tree will ensure there is a proper amount of nutrients and minerals that your tree needs to thrive in the new location.

Step 3: Remove burlap sack if it has one and then place it in the hole

Removing the burlap sack ensures that your trees roots can grow freely and take root. If you leave the burlap sack on it will not decay quickly, if any roots grow through the sack they can be damaged or constricted on their growth in diameter.

Step 4: Fill hole with remaining top soil

Fill the hole in and around the root ball with the soil that was removed from the hole. Gently pack the dirt around the root ball to remove any air pockets. Do not return any grass or sod on top of the hole, this will allow for optimal oxygen to the dirt and roots.

Step 5: Water the tree

A good rule of thumb is to give your newly planted tree 2-3 gallons of water per inch of it’s trunk diameter

Step 6: Water 2 to 3 times a week depending on the weather

Make sure to use the same rule of thumb for watering as in step 5 every 2 – 3 days for your new tree. If you are in a rainy season make sure not to over water your tree if it’s getting water naturally.
