Scarlet Runner Pole Bean Seeds (Large Packet 4x5") 1225
Scarlet Runner Pole Bean Seeds 1225 Heirloom Vegetable.
Approx. 30-40 seeds/pkt (1-2 seeds/gram)
Scarlet Runner has been documented as growing in gardens as early as the 1750’s! Reaching 3 m (10′) or more in height, these densely leaved, vigorously growing plants are used as ornamental climbers due to the abundance of flowers they produce. Flowers are usually brilliant scarlet red. As these are ancient heirloom beans, the genetics are not as stable as modern varieties. Occasionally you may find the flowers are white, orange or a mixture. The broad, oval, string-less pods are delicious when harvested and cooked young. Pick mature pods to ensure continuous production of the beautiful flowers. The flowers are also a sure-fire hummingbird attractant!
How to Grow
The growth requirements for pole beans are mostly the same as bush beans. The main difference is pole beans need to be grown on trellises, open weave fencing, nylon bean netting strung between supports or on bamboo or pole teepees. Securely anchor temporary structures to prevent collapse during the growing season. Make sure irrigation supplements rainfall during droughty weather.
