Dahlia – Cranberry Classic (Bulb / Tuber)

Add bold, vibrant color to your summer garden with the stunning Cranberry Classic Dahlia. This variety produces large, fully double blooms in rich cranberry-pink tones with soft lighter highlights, creating a dramatic focal point in flower beds, borders, and cutting gardens. The lush layered petals form a classic decorative dahlia shape that stands out beautifully from mid-summer until the first frost. Cranberry Classic is also an excellent cut flower, producing long sturdy stems that look spectacular in bouquets and arrangements.

These premium dahlia tubers (bulbs) grow into strong, bushy plants that attract pollinators like bees and butterflies while adding long-lasting color to the landscape.

Growing Instructions for Zone 3b

Because Zone 3b has cold winters, dahlias must be planted after the danger of frost and lifted before winter.

  1. Start Time:
Plant tubers outdoors in late spring once soil temperatures reach about 60°F and all frost danger has passed.
  2. Location:
Choose a spot with full sun (6–8 hours daily) and well-draining soil.
  3. Planting Depth:
    • Dig a hole about 4–6 inches deep.
    • Place the tuber horizontally with the eye facing upward.
    • Cover with soil and water lightly.
  4. Spacing:
Space plants 18–24 inches apart to allow room for growth and airflow.
  5. Watering:
Water regularly once sprouts appear. Keep soil moist but not waterlogged.
  6. Support:
Taller plants may benefit from staking to support large blooms.
  7. Fertilizing:
Apply a balanced fertilizer every 3–4 weeks during the growing season.
  8. Overwintering in Zone 3b:
    • After the first frost blackens the foliage, cut stems to about 4–6 inches.
    • Carefully dig up tubers and allow them to dry for a few days.
    • Store in peat moss or vermiculite in a cool, dark location (40–50°F) until spring.

With proper care, Cranberry Classic Dahlias will reward gardeners with months of brilliant blooms and dependable performance season after season.
