Seed Potato – Creamer Sack (1.5kg)

The Creamer Sack seed potato mix produces small, tender “creamer” potatoes that are harvested young for their exceptional flavor and smooth, creamy texture. Creamer potatoes are prized for their thin skins, naturally buttery taste, and uniform bite-sized shape, making them perfect for roasting, boiling, steaming, and potato salads.

This sack typically includes a mix of small potato varieties selected specifically for producing high-quality creamer potatoes. These potatoes are harvested earlier than full-sized potatoes and are especially valued for their delicate texture and rich flavor. They require minimal preparation in the kitchen and cook quickly, making them a favorite for home cooks and gardeners alike.

Creamer potatoes grow well in home gardens, raised beds, or larger garden plots and provide reliable yields throughout the growing season.

Growing Instructions (Zone 3b)

Potatoes grow very well in cooler northern climates and are well suited to Zone 3b gardens.

  • Planting Time: Plant seed potatoes in late spring once soil temperatures reach about 7–10°C (45–50°F). In Zone 3b this is typically mid-May to early June.
  • Sun: Full sun is required for healthy plant growth and good tuber production.
  • Soil: Loose, fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter with a pH between 5.0–6.5.
  • Preparation: If seed potatoes are large, cut into pieces with at least 1–2 eyes per piece. Allow cut pieces to dry for 1–2 days before planting to reduce the chance of rot.
  • Planting Depth: Plant pieces about 3–4 inches deep.
  • Spacing: Space plants 12 inches apart in rows 24–30 inches apart.
  • Hilling: When plants reach 6–8 inches tall, mound soil around the base of the plants. Continue hilling as plants grow to encourage more tuber production and protect developing potatoes from sunlight.
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, particularly during flowering when tubers are forming.
  • Harvest: Creamer potatoes can be harvested early, usually about 60–80 days after planting, when the potatoes are small and tender.
  • Storage: If allowing some potatoes to mature fully, cure them in a dark, well-ventilated space for 1–2 weeks before storing in a cool, dark location.

The Creamer Sack is an excellent choice for gardeners who enjoy harvesting small, flavorful potatoes that are perfect for quick and delicious meals.
