Purple Top White Globe Turnip Seeds (Summer Type) 2160. Heirloom Vegetable.
Approx. 1,700 seeds/pkt (400 seeds/gram)
The Purple Top White Globe Turnip is an attractive, classic heirloom cultivar introduced before 1890. To clear up any confusion, this is a true turnip, not a rutabaga! It produces beautiful, round roots distinguished by a vibrant purplish-red top and a clean white bottom. The flesh is delightfully crisp and mild tasting. Furthermore, the younger leaves are excellent and suitable for fresh use in salads.
Turnips are an incredibly versatile and healthy addition to your garden. The roots are a good source of Vitamin C and dietary fibre. The younger leaves (turnip greens) are a nutritional powerhouse, providing very high levels of Vitamin K and Vitamin A, making this crop a dual-purpose health boost.
Turnips are cool-season crops that are similar in culture to other members of the Brassica family. They perform best when grown quickly.
Plant in a location with Full Sun and rich, well-drained soil. Thin seedlings promptly after germination to ensure roots have room to swell. Harvest when the roots are 7.5 cm to 10 cm across for the best quality and flavour. Avoid confusion with rutabaga (Swede). Germination occurs in 7 to 10 days.
Choose this reliable heirloom for a fast, dual-purpose crop. Not only do you get crisp, mild-tasting roots perfect for roasting or eating raw, but you also get tender, nutritious greens for your salads. The Purple Top White Globe is a classic choice for guaranteed flavour and reliable performance in your cool-season garden.
