Plant Care Instructions
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage and fade the colorful bracts.
- Water: Keep a small amount of fresh water in the central rosette and replace it regularly to prevent stagnation. Water the potting medium lightly when it begins to dry, avoiding constantly soggy soil.
- Soil: Use a loose, airy, well-draining bromeliad or orchid-style potting mix that provides excellent root aeration.
- Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity with good air circulation. Occasional misting can help in dry indoor environments.
- Temperature: Prefers warm conditions between approximately 18–27°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 13°C.
- Fertilizer: Feed sparingly during spring and summer with a diluted bromeliad fertilizer or balanced houseplant fertilizer at reduced strength.
- Maintenance: Keep the central cup clean, refresh its water regularly, and remove dry or damaged foliage to maintain a healthy appearance.
- Pruning: Once the flower spike has completely faded, cut it near the base using clean scissors. The mature plant may gradually produce offsets, or pups, around its base.
- Repotting: Repot only when necessary, typically when the potting medium deteriorates or offsets require additional space. Vriesea bromeliads generally perform well in relatively snug containers.
